The Missing 118
The Missing 118 is an easy-to-use, educational app that lets kids learn the very basics of chemistry in a fun and simple way. Children will be put to the test in multiple puzzles that require just a little bit of previous chemistry knowledge to solve. For example, a person will be given hydrogen, oxygen, and another random element. The smartphone or tablet will then inquire which of the two elements are used to create water. As the player gains more knowledge, they will gain more and more elements which will aid in the creation of new compounds. The players will need to have mastery of the Periodic Table of Elements and certain basic compounds committed to memory to complete the more challenging endgame puzzles. For the player who is more than mediocre at chemistry, a difficulty level—between novice (beginner) and chemist (advanced)—may be chosen. Although there is nothing wrong with studying from old-school textbooks, we believe that it is time for chemistry to meet children in the modern age of technology.
