In this lesson you are going to learn how to use the Scratch "Translate" extension and write the code to translate a phrase into the foreign language you are studying here at Harvest Park.
Log into Scratch using your CS First UserName and Password
Watch the video below to get some idea on how to construct the code in Scratch (see the video at the bottom of the page)
Start a new project in Scratch
You need to come up with a short phrase that you will translate to a foreign language using Scratch, embed into your Digital Portfolio and then send a link to your Foreign Language teacher at Harvest Park*
The needs to be a short phrase (not just Hi) , needs to be school appropriate and aling with your Sprite and Back Ground.
You need to have the sprite and background match with your language/theme. In my example, I chose a soccer ball and soccer field because my language was Italian - soccer is the national sport of Italy.
1. Resize the Sprite so it fills the space
2. Repost-ion the Sprite to the center of the Window
3. Use the Text Tool on the Costumes page to add the word "CLICK ME" so your recipient know what to do!!
4. Add a cool background that matches your theme/plan.
Once you are finished, on your Project Page in Scratch you will see the option of EMBED for the Code when you click "COPY LINK"
Copy this embed code, you will use this in your Digital Portfolio page (see next steps)
1. Add a NEW PAGE to your Digital Portfolio - you can call it Coding
2. Chose the "Insert" option and then "Embed <>" on the right margin
3. Choose "embed code" in the pop up window
4. Copy the Embed Code in this window and choose "insert"
5. Your new Sprite will now appear
Publish
1. You will need to Publish the updates to your Digital Portfolio
2. TEST THE LINK.... make sure you have the link to the PAGE WITH THE SPRITE and then log out of Google and test the link to make sure it works.
3. Permissions/Sharing: If you cannot access the link when NOT logged in to Gmail, - then you may need to adjust your SHARING setting on your website.
1. Take your tested link to your webpage, copy it paste into an EMAIL to YOUR FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER :)
2. If you are not taking a Foreign Language class here at HP - then EMAIL TO YOUR COUNSELOR, or and ADMIN
3. Turn in the Scratch Link to your Shared Scratch Page to Google Classroom (not your website link)
On your Project Page in Scratch, when you choose "COPY" you will see the EMBED code.
Copy this as you will need this on your Digital Portfolio Webpage.
