Digital Portfolio Project

Process/Overview

When you leave this class, you will take with you a cool website that will act as your Digital Portfolio and showcase all the things you created while in class. This way when someone (like your parents) ask "What did you do in Computer Class?"... you won't have to just tell them.. you can SHOW THEM!!

The Digital Portfolio Consists Of Two Parts:

1. A Folder In Google Drive where all the "assets" or cool stuff you create is located, so the website can find it to display

2. The Website itself - for this we will be using New Google Sites

Steps To Follow:

Access your Google Drive from your PUSD Email - click on "apps waffle"

Choose Create New Folder

Call the Folder

"Digital Portfolio"

Once the folder is created we need to set the "sharing permission". This only have to be done once on the Folder level, then all the files in the folder will have the same sharing permissions!

Click on the Drop Down Arrow Next to the Folder's Name (see picture)

Choose "Share"

We are now going to change the setting, to "Anyone With The Link Can View"

You will now see the two dialog boxes below:

1. Under the "Get Link" - choose Change

2. Now click the Drop Down menu and choose "Anyone With The Link" - - Keep the choice on the right as "Viewer" (not editor)

Adding Files To The WebFolder

Now that you have created the Web Folder and set the permissions, it is time to start putting our work in your "Digital Portfolio" Google Drive Folder, then it will be easy to add them to the website later.

Right now you have two files to move into the Digital Portfolio Folder.

These image files should be in your DOWNLOADS FOLDER on your Chromebook.

Open BOTH your Downloads Folder AND your Google Drive Digital Portfolio folder, and you can drag both image files into your Google Drive Folder

1. Avatar/ Bitmoji Image File

2. Personalized Hydro Flask Image file. (not the presentation slide)

Creating Your Digital Portfolio Website

To create your site, we will again start back in the Apps Waffle in your PUSD GMAIL.

This time, we will select SITES

BE SURE TO CHOOSE "NEW GOOGLE SITES

Choose "Start New Site" Blank... CLICK THE BIG PLUS SIGN

Change "Untitled" to YOUR NAME - DIGITAL PORTFOLIO......

Call the Page "All About Me"

Click Pages In the Right Tool Bar and Add Three Pages.

For now call them Videos, Cartoons, Music (we can change these names later)

In the right menu, look for INSERT and Choose FROM GOOGLE DRIVE

Navigate to your Digital Portfolio Folder, and then SELECT and INSERT these two image files into the Home Page (All About Me) webpage:

1. Avatar/ Bitmoji Image File

2. Personalized Hydro Flask Image file.

Sharing Permission On Your Website

Just like your folder, your website has "sharing" permissions that need to be set one time as well.

Here is what you need to do in three clicks!

Click on the little "sharing" man in the upper right hand corner of your webpage editor

Now ......DO NOT PUT ANYONE'S EMAIL IN THE SHARE BOX

Click below where is says links - and click CHANGE

Next - click the drop down box and choose

PUBLIC - this way whoever you send the link to will be able to view your site

Publishing Your Website

Publishing your site, put it on the internet and provided the URL that you an send to people your trust to view your site.

You will need to "Publish" your site after and changes you make in the editor, so don't worry about "Publishing" a bunch of times, that is normal.

Each time it will update and write over the prior copy of the site on the internet.

Here are the steps:

As soon as the site is published, a window will pop up offer you to VIEW the site - click on that and it will take you to the actual URL to your new site!!!

If you miss the "VIEW" button - you can always look under PUBLISH and choose "VIEW PUBLISHED site, it will take to the URL of your site.

**Copy and paste the Actual URL of your published site, you can then send that to yourself or your parents to view your completed site**
