Preparing the Robot Before Connecting the USB
Make sure you have the Battery Connected AND the Cortex turned AND the USB connected to the Cortex before connecting to the computer.
OPEN ROBOTC PROGRAM ON THE DESKTOP
Now Connect the USB to the Computer.
Preparing RobotC
Before writing and testing any code - there are some set up steps that will enable Robot to communicate with the program/computer - these will only need to be set up one time.
All the set up items can be found under ROBOT in the main menu:
If you are experiencing problems, go through the following steps to diagnose - most often problems can be found in the Motor and sensor set up.
1. VEX Communication Mode: Be sure this is set to USB only
2. Platform Type: Be sure this is set to Natural Language Programming.
2. Motors and Sensor Set Up:
Now you will create a sample program and map tell the computer what "Ports" you are using for your motors, light, buttons etc...
First OPEN a SAMPLE PROGRAM
Look for the FOLDER PLTW and open the PLTW TEMPLATE.
Next SAVE-AS and change the name of this document to YOUR NAME - SAVE on the Windows Desktop.... this way you can make changes to the file.
Now you will go to MOTORS and SENSORS set-up under the ROBOT menu and tell the program what ports you are using. Be sure to fill in the information required, ie..motor name, motor type etc... and hit APPLY.
