Grade/Class: SK
Context: Students learn about the importance of family and their own heritage.
Learning: In this project, students began by discovering the origins of their families, followed by reading the book "All Are Welcome" to discuss diversity. Students learned to say "welcome" in their family's unique languages and marked their family's countries on a world map. They enjoyed tasting foods from around the world and learned about the different flags of each country. Despite being born in Canada, the children celebrated their diverse backgrounds. They worked in groups using various mediums to create flags representing the countries of their parents or grandparents. The project concluded with students making real snow globes featuring pictures of their immediate families, celebrating their unique heritages in a memorable and creative way.
