Throughout the story, the characters embark on various adventures together, demonstrating resilience, compassion, and the power of friendship. To culminate our unit and provide a unique learning experience, we collaborated with Kayla's Children Centre. The grade 6 girls had the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the daily tasks and challenges faced by individuals who navigate the world without the full use of certain senses or abilities. Students engaged in tasks designed to simulate the experiences of individuals with disabilities. By temporarily limiting their senses or abilities, the girls gained a deeper understanding and empathy for those who face such challenges daily. This experiential learning activity fostered compassion, awareness, and a broader perspective among the students.
