Puppeteering

Grade/Class: Grade 5 Drama

Context: Grade 5 students explore many aspects of Dramatic Arts during their half-year Drama specialty, including puppeteering.

Learning: In an interdisciplinary arts project that seamlessly integrated Literacy, Drama, and STEM, the students explored the art of puppeteering. Students created characters that were a reflection of their imagination and storytelling skills. Building upon their understanding of characters from dramatic arts, the students explored literary works and films, drawing inspiration for their adapted scripts. They wove together their narratives, infusing their scripts with creativity, wit, and meaningful themes. They also spent time gathering materials and building their puppets as well as  set design, costume design and prop building.

The project reached its culmination with a spectacular puppet show in front of a grade 1 audience. The students showcased their talent and creativity as they brought their carefully crafted puppets, sets, props, and scripts to life. The performance was a testament to their hard work, determination, and passion for the arts.
