Interactions in the Environment

Grade/Class: Grade 7 STEM

Context: As part of the Interactions in the Environment unit, students learn about the conditions necessary for plants to grow in the environment. The Netivot greenhouse provides a unique opportunity to carefully control the environment in which plants can grow.

Learning: Students worked in groups to create growing experiments in the greenhouse. Students chose independent variables to test against control plants and recorded their obsevrations on a weekly basis. They were also responsible for watering their experimental and control plants. Rabbi Soroka spoke to the students about the significance of planting seeds at the same time as the farmers in Israel preparing for winter, and of the timeliness as it relates to the bracha "mashiv haruach u'morid hageshem"
