Grade/Class: Grade 4 Social Studies
Context: Students learn about mapping and the Canadian provinces.
Learning: Students undertook a meaningful project that combined their study of Canadian provinces and mapping with Canada's role in the slave trade and the Underground Railroad. During Black History Month, each student group mapped out a province, highlighting relevant cities during the slave trade and the routes to freedom taken by escaping slaves. This project deepened their understanding of Canadian geography while providing important historical context, fostering a greater appreciation of Canada's diverse history and its impact on the path to freedom.
