Playground Structures

Grade/Class: Grade 1 Science

Context: In Science, students learn about components of strong and stable structures.

Learning: The project involved building model playground structures out of recycled materials. The goal of the project was to allow students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to build their own playground structures. The students collected a variety of recycled materials, such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, and paper tubes, to use in their designs. They worked in small groups to plan, design, and construct their playground structures. Throughout the project, students practiced a variety of skills, including teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. In addition, the students gained valuable experience in engineering and design. They learned about the importance of stability and balance in structure design, and how to use different materials in construction.

Student Feedback:

"I liked building with my partner. We had to agree on everything and sometimes she didn't agree with me. But in the end we did."

"We didn't have enough time. I wish I could make more of the structure."

"It was fun. It was in a different room and also you have a different creation. We should be creative and make stuff that we didn't think of before."
