Environmentalism and Torah

Grade/Class: Grade 7 Geography

Context: Students learn about the environment, the impact humans have on their environment, and ways we can protect it.

Learning: Integrating Torah learning into their geography unit, students engaged in a reflective writing task, where they contemplated a passuk from Kohelet and its relevance to their lives and the Netivot community. Through this task, students developed critical thinking skills as they analyzed the passuk and connected it to their own experiences and actions. They learned to appreciate the wisdom and guidance offered by Jewish texts and applied it to contemporary environmental issues. The activity encouraged self-reflection and personal responsibility, as students contemplated what they can do to protect the environment both individually and as a community.
