Habitats

Grade/Class: Grade 4 Science

Context: Students learn about habitats in Science class, focussing on the different living and non-living characteristics of different habitats around the world.

Learning: The grade 4 classes completed a STEAM activity where they built 3D models of different habitats. The students engaged in research and learning about different habitats found in the world. This included studying the characteristics of different types of habitats such as forests, deserts, and oceans, as well as the animals and plants that call those habitats home. They learned about the impact of human activities on habitats and the importance of conservation. The students included representations of animals, terrain, vegetation, and human impact in their models. This activity was a valuable learning experience as it allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of the different habitats found in the world and how they support different forms of life. Additionally, it helped them to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills as they had to consider how different elements, such as animals and vegetation, fit together in the habitat they were creating.
