My Family Story

Grade/Class: Grade 6

Context: In Ivrit class, students practice oral and written communication.

Learning: Students embarked on an exciting journey exploring their families' Jewish roots. This project is derived from a special curriculum that comes out of Israel through the Beit Hatfutsot Museum.  Students acted as their families' anthropologists. They were given the task to uncover the story of their family origins, with elements of the project happening both in school and at home.

Assignment #1: Creating a Family tree to visually represent family members 

Assignment #2: Tracing one’s family history geographically on a world map 

Assignment #3: An interview with parents and grandparents/great grandparents 

Assignment# 4: A Culminating activity called “My Family Roots Project” which is a creative/artistic presentation that depicts each student’s family story and connects to the central theme of Jewish Peoplehood.
