Refugee Character Sketches

Context: Students complete novel studies as part of their Literacy leanring, and learn about global popoulation movement in Social Studies.

Learning: After completing the novel study of Refugee by Alan Gratz, Grade 7 students engaged in a creative and analytical project. Each student chose one main character to focus on and created an in-depth character sketch. They thoroughly analyzed their chosen character, delving into the internal conflicts they faced and exploring the themes that impacted them throughout the book. The resulting drawings were both creative and thoughtful, reflecting a deep understanding of the characters and the novel's complex themes. This activity not only enhanced their analytical skills but also allowed for meaningful artistic expression.
