Science Celebration of Learning (Oct 16, 2022 at 11:41 AM).MOV

ALLISON OAK SOE

I chose this to present as this shows how primary school science can be applied to everyday life

Bosco Wan Bok Jyun (Admiraltyps) - Science Celebration of Learning

BOSCO WAN BOK JYUN

I chose this LWT as it was the most memorable for me. I got to read up on biomass and I felt that it was very interesting. I may have spent a lot of time doing this, but I think it is worth it.

CALEB YEO YI XI

This is a picture of my Science Journal. I will write notes and specific reminders that Mr Ang has given us. The notes are about Forces, and how they are applied in our everyday life. There are four types of forces, namely gravitational force (gravity), frictional force (friction), magnetic force of attraction and repulsion and elastic spring force. Forces is my favourite topic of science as it is important to our everyday life. Should we not have frictional force in our life, it would be impossible to slow down or even start walking without falling.

CHENG KAI SEN

I chose this item because I think it made me more interested in how Singapore

generates electricity and how to make generating electricity more environmentally friendly since Singapore generates most of its electricity by burning fossil fuels since Singapore uses natural gas and oil to generate electricity which pollutes the environment. It also made me consider other sources Singapore can use to generate electricity.

CHENG XIN YUE

I chose this picture because I find it very interesting. The picture is a mind map about forms of energy - a topic we learn at P6 level. Energy is very important in our lives. We see energy everywhere. For instance, when you are in a roller coaster, as it is going down the tracks, Potential energy in the roller coaster is converted to kinetic energy in the roller coaster.

COL-SC.pptx

CHEW KYAL SIN MEGAN

I got to learn more about the traditional source for power generation for Singapore and since Singapore was a small country, that made it harder to come up with a suitable idea for the source of power, but this was a good experience for me to learn more about sustainable energy in our society.

Why I found that picture interesting:

  • I found that the topic “Adaptations” was one of the most interesting topics I have learnt because it is very interesting to learn about how an animal works and how it teaches itself how to survive in the wild. For example, like what is shown in the picture, the snake can only see the colour purple more easily, thus more of the purple frogs were then eaten and thus evolved to the green frog to increase its survival rate in the wild.

  • I found the topic “ Man’s Impact on the Environment” Interesting because it informs us and warns us about what is the effect of many of our actions and what was the cause of it. By doing so, I believe that many of my classmates and myself will strive to achieve a better environment by reducing the amount of waste produced etc.

  • One thing that I found online that interested me was a video talking about a man quitting his job and working at a hotel to collect all the used up soaps. He then melted them and carved them into new soaps which he then gives out for free to the families in poverty and by doing so, he reduced the amount of waste by 2.3 billion kilograms and also reduced the number of children in poverty falling sick by 60%.

DUAN BOYU

This is a picture of the task that required me to send a letter to the prime minister to suggest the most suitable renewable energy for Singapore. This task required me to think about the effects of renewable energy on Singapore and the pros and cons of each source of renewable energy. I learnt that there is no perfect solution and everything has trade-offs. At last, I decided on solar energy as the most suitable renewable energy for Singapore.

FANG ZHE LUCAS

This is a KWL on the topic of energy. I have learned a lot through this piece of work. This has helped me understand better what energy is.

FENG ZI XUAN

I choose this egg drop experiment as it is the most interesting Science project I have ever done. Unlike other experiments where teachers do it, we get to do this experiment ourselves. Through this experiment, I have learnt how a parachute works.

J MOHAMED SAFWAAN

I thought germination is an event where germs reproduced because of the "germ". But after going through the Science lessons, I learnt that it is a process where plant seeds develop into seedlings. The seeds need water, oxygen and warmth to germinate. Next, the root comes out first before the shoot. The shoot develops leaves that makes food for the plant. That is how seeds germinate.

JAKKULA RUPESH RAJ

I used to think energy is the same as electricity but now I know that energy can be in different forms, like electrical energy, heat energy, potential energy etc.

COL SCIENCE JOVANAHUANG(13) 6ED.pptx

JOVANA HUANG

For COL (Celebration Of Learning), I have chosen two topics that interests me the most as I was unable to choose between these two.

The two topics are:

-Adaptations

-Seed dispersal

Please view the slides for more explanation.

KUNNAKKAT ARCHANA SURESH

The ice experiment was one of the experiments I had done for the Science Carnival other than the rate of melting ice. I had to spinkle salt as this trick would not work with pure water. The egg drop experiment was something my group and I did. Although this picture illustrates a success, ours failed.

LEANNE NG LE EN

This is a page from my science journal about forces. I chose this because I think my science journal helped me a lot. Instead of reading an entire textbook the night before an exam, I can just look through my science journal. It also allowed me to take note of my previous mistakes and the correct answer.

LEE RUI YANG

This is a letter to the president about renewable sources. I learnt about the different sources of renewable energy through this activity.

LIEW QI YUE

Although taking down notes was not the biggest part of the science lessons this year, I still enjoy taking notes a lot. I will usually write down notes when the teacher is going through a topic and I would take down main points and also extra stuff. For example in the note, when the teacher was showing us a video I drew and wrote down some notes about it.

LIEW YIN JIA, JUDSON

This is a picture of my science journal , it was one of the topics which i was really keen on learning about , which is "energy" , it was also one of the most intresting topics , this notes i had taken in the past was quite informative and fun to read , now looking back at it , it was phrased in easily understandable bits for me to reflect on and learn

LIU JIEYING

This is my Science LwT. My strongest subject isn’t Science but I get to improve in Science by doing LwT. In my opinion, energy is one of the worst topic in Science but after doing this LwT, I have more interest in Energy!

LO YONG JIA

I chose this page of my Science journal as it shows how much my understanding of Science concepts have improved over the months. Not only that, the questions in the KWL has all been answered. Above the forces notes, there is a showing of my thinking of Science before and after P3.

LOGAN CHUA LI SHERN

I like to watch interesting science videos of animal adaptations because there are facts that I can apply to my Science in school.

NG ZI LAI

I chose this part of my science journal because I really enjoyed creating my own machine that can help the environment. Although it was bad, it was worth a try. I would enjoy trying this again in secondary school in the future. This actively demonstrates that more schools should have these activities for children to do. They can find more interesting activities like learning journeys to help the students learn in a fun and active way.

Zhi Hong COL

ONG ZHI HONG

This is a page 📄 of my science journal 📔. It signifies what I learnt from 21st January to 14th February. I learnt about forces and did KWL about energy. I found out that the direction of the forces are different and the magnitude of the forces are affected by different variables.

QAISARA NUR AFIQAH

I enjoyed doing the science LwT… If I am not wrong we did this before starting the topic ‘Energy’. I learned about many new things. How renewables help reduce our carbon emission, how other countries are trying to find a way to reduce carbon emission and about renewable energy. After watching the videos provided and researching my thoughts to find out more about it, my understanding of renewables have increased. The last task was for us to write a letter to the Prime Minister about which renewable energy is the best for Singapore. I did my research and gave my opinion about it. The LwT was definitely very fun and the best part was that I was able to learn deeper on the topic.

This is my answer— I chose wind energy as Singapore is a little red dot and for water or other renewable energy sources, I think there would not be much space to do so. Maybe if Singapore had more land, the other renewable source it could use is water as we are a tropical island / we are surrounded by the sea.

QUINTUS LIM YONGJUN

I chose this piece of entry as the different adaptations of animals intrigued me and made me want to learn more about it on the internet.

SANJEY SAE BALAKUMAREN

I chose this picture of the water cycle as I always wondered how rain forms. I used to think the rain falls from clouds that hold water, but now I know that water from the sea evaporates and form tiny water droplets which condenses to form water droplets, and when the water droplets gather, they form clouds. Now I know how this endless cycle is repeated.

Science CoL by Sarathy Adhinav 6ED

SARATHY ADHINAV

These 2 works are my favourites because I enjoyed doing research for these 2 works. The first one is a research I did about friction and the second one is an experiment I conducted to find out how the length of wire affects the brightness of light bulb. I enjoy doing research because it encourages the curiosity and inquisitiveness in me. I also learn additionally by doing so and reinforces my learning of certain Science concepts. For instance, through these works, I have gained deeper understanding of the types of friction and the factors affecting the brightness of a bulb.

SOH ZI CONG

This is a picture of my science journal, I choose this as my CoL piece as I was able to remember and revive these these by copying what the teacher has wrote on the whiteboard and revising it at home, the science journal really helped me throughout the year.

SONG XURUI

This egg drop test was the most memorable as after dropping the egg, I felt really anxious as I had suggested the idea. When I saw that the egg barely cracked, I was both happy and confused, did I save the egg? The experiment was the first outside of classroom experiment since Covid struck.

SOON EN HUI FELICIA

This is my LwT Science work. I chose this as I enjoyed learning about the different sources of renewable energy and learnt many new things.

20220330_104643.mp4

TAN JIA YU

There was this one time when the whole level was giving some materials to build our own parachute to prevent the egg from cracking when drop from the certain height.

Even thought my group did not succeed in the egg drop experiment, we still have fun and learnt about forces and energy. The experiment was very memorable and highly enjoyable. I hope will still have the opportunity to try the experiment again.

TAN YI KAI

My COL is about the LWT in sls in term one, which was about saving electricity. I learnt that saving electricity is important as wasting electricity is bad for the environment. We can use windmails or water turbines to get renewable electricity. We can also off the lights when we leave our house to save electricity. By saving electricity, we can save the earth and make the world a better place to live in.

TAN YU WEN

I feel that concept maps help me remember the concept of the different topics easily as I can see how the concept is connected to other concepts in the topic. Using this method, I made concept maps of different topics in science for the benefit of my learning.

20220330_104643.mp4

VYDEN WANG JIAWEN

I learnt about air resistance and I also conducted an experiment about using the egg with a parachute and dropped it from a bridge. The egg landed on the X without breaking. My team and I were so happy that we had succeeded.

WAN KEXUAN

These slides are about the adaptations of living things which are unique and not all living things have the same or similar adaptations.I find this the most interesting and memorable as I spent a lot of time researching on different animals and had to choose what I thought was the most special of all that I have found on the internet. It was also fun to learn about these animals in detail and I would like to do something similar like this again if I have the time to.

YEE JING HAN

My COL for science is my Science journal, about what I have learnt this year. I refer to the science journal or textbook if I need any information about the topic I am studying. The science journal is quite handy, because it is just in my school bag, whenever I need it, I can just take it out.

YOO WAN NI

Here I learnt about the ecological pyramid and the man’s impact on the environment. The ecological pyramid has 5 stacks, from producers to apex predators. The man’s impact on the environment has both positive and negative impact, although there are more negative impacts than positive, I believe it is possible to have more positive impacts.

science col

ZHANG SHIRUI

I chose this research as it helped me understand the concept of condensation better. I think it can also be helpful to those who just started learning about condensation.

ZHAO HAOCHENG

I chose this picture of my science journal because I think it taught me the most about preys, predators, producers, consumers and decomposers. Each of them is well-described. I find that it taught me a lot.

ZHOU QINGMIN

I loves animal, and I had fun researching about bees and their structural adaptions but what fascinated me were the different types of beaks that birds have as I normally do not observe the type of beak a bird has, the other reason is because they are usually in the sky, flying about.

Zong Xiyu (Admiraltyps) - Science Celebration of Learning

ZONG XIYU

I chose these pages from my Science journal as they are about the topic: Man’s Impact On His Environment. I learnt how our daily actions can contribute to harming the environment and their effects on our environment. It was all new to me and extremely interesting to learn, though I wished we could have learnt more about this.

ZOU YICHENG

I found this the most memorable as I took a long time just to do it, it also made me learn that the colour of light does affect the rate of evaporation of water. It is also a very interesting experiment as I always thought that colour of water does not affect the rate of evaporation.
