Cultural Music - Southeast Asian Music
Musicians express their feelings and ideas through their music pieces with the musical elements and concepts in mind. The instruments played in a particular culture are unique and evoke different feelings and emotions. We learn that through music, cultural heritage can be reserved.
We learn that elephants in Thai culture are important. They are the official national animal in Thailand and they are respected by the Thais. There are many Thai songs that are about elephants. We have learned how to sing a Thai song about elephants called Pleeng Chang.

Musical Productions Around Us - Musicals
Through learning about musicals, we learn how to appreciate musical productions with the expressions of the musical elements and concepts in mind. We understand that there are different ways of communication in music and learn that music and singing can be used to tell stories.
We sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", a musical song from a musical The Lion King, and accompanied our singing with percussion instruments from GarageBand.

Musician's statement: I compose the music by using the drum kit at forte. I use kick, snare, claps, high hats, tom low, tom high and cymbals. I use loud forte for the sound of the lion.
Huangrui
Musician's statement: I composed the melody to make it more fast and energetic since I thought that the original was little bit slow for me to like and so I decided to make it faster. The faster tempo also represents a lion in attack, running quickly to attack the prey.
The simple melody is also because a lion needs to be quiet and sneaky to attack the prey so I did a simple and forte volume beat also meaning the intensity.

Musician's statement: We compose the music with the drum kit at forte and the clapping with mezzo piano because we think that we want the drum to be heard loudly to represent the lion. :)

Musician's statement: I compose the music with the hip hop smart drum kit at forte because I want the smart drum to be heard loudly to represent the lion.
Tim
Musician's statement: I compose this music with a hip hop drum machine and modern 808 at mezzo piano because I don't want the vocals to be the loudest.
Musician's statement: The tempo of our song is at allegro, the dynamics is between forte and fortissimo, and the rhythm of our song is at 4 beats per bar.
