5 INTEGRITY

AJAY ISHWAR ARUL

I took 54 seconds to complete a rubix cube puzzle. I did this for my Mathematics Rate LwT. If I had 1 hour, I could have solved around 111 rubix cubes. In rate this year, we had many fun activities. For example, we competed for how many claps we could do in a minute and I did 294 claps! I had a lot of fun making that video clip. 😊

BEVERLY LIM ZI YING

Through this activity, I learned how to estimate and how to find different solutions to prove a statement wrong. Throughout the year, In Math, I learn different concepts, and problem solving strategies, and I learn to apply the skills to solve the problems given. I've enjoyed my experience in P5 and I look forward to my P6 learning journey.

CANDASE CHOONG YU HANG

This task represented my heart rate increasing as I was exercising. I chose a line graph to represent my heart rate because it shows clearly the sudden increase and decrease of my heart rate based on real time. I chose not to use bar graph because bar graph best represents discrete data that is not time sensitive.

CAO ZIYAN

I have faced a lot of challenges in my Primary 5 year. Most of the challenges are related to Math learning. However, my teacher helped me to change that negative experience into a positive one. The work that I find most interesting is the LwT. I like doing work online as it is more convenient and I have more time to think through the solutions.

CHEN YUHENG

I took 25 seconds to fold a paper boat. I learn about Rate and I am now able to compute how long on average it takes me to get certain things done like folding a paper boat. If I have 5 minutes, I would be able to fold 12 paper boats. The activity was fun and I have enjoyed myself. I could combine my passion of origami with math now.

CHENG ZHUO HANN, TRISTAN

I learned to compute GST and discount on prices. I also searched online for samples of receipts. I am proud of my work as I managed to apply my learning into a real life situation and I took the initiative to print out the receipt. I even made the effort to label and show my equations neatly.

CHOONG YI XIANG

I could do 6 claps in a second. Therefore, I could do 60x6 = 360 claps in a minute and 21 600 claps in an hour. I am still behind the Guinness World Book of Records of 1103 claps in a minute. I had fun doing this LwT task.

EMMETT CHAN

I typed 32 words in a minute for this LwT task. I learn that I can apply math concept, Rate, into this task. I really enjoyed this activity because I could see my potential and slowly work to it. I did not know that I could type this fast (even though it is not very fast) and I will now continue to practise and improve in typing. I know that I will not beat the world record, but I know that I have a potential to typing.

HUANG SHENGTING

At first, I thought that my math concepts of fraction will not improve, but throughout this year, I did hands-on activities and they helped to improve my concept of fraction. The picture shown above was one of the activities that I did for my LwT. I am very proud of this work and I also enjoyed colouring the ‘cake’.

HUANG SHENGYUAN

I chose this certificate for my COL as I am very proud of getting bronze in the math Olympiad. This is also one of the best pieces of achievements I have got so far in my life. From P1 to P5, I’ve learnt many useful skills in math throughout these years and also learnt many tips when doing different math questions. In my P5 year, I have learnt more new topics and revised these topics throughout all the years.

JANICE LEE

The interior design of my existing flat is simple and elegant. Certain areas are bigger like the living room because it is a gathering space for all. Through this activity, I learn to get to see how math concepts like area, measurements, space are applied in real life.

JOVELYN NG ZU HUI

In this task, I was supposed to see how many times I could clap per minute. The concepts involved were estimation which we learnt last year and rate which we learnt this year. I enjoyed doing this task as it was fun and easy. We also had to estimate the number of claps a person did in a minute after watching the video.

I was not correct but my estimation was close to the actual answer.

KOO YEE TONG KERRINE

My flat has a studio, 3 bedrooms, 3 toilets, 2 balconies and a living room. If I were to change something, I will make one of the balconies longer in length so that it could be joined to another bedroom. My dream flat should have two levels and 6 bedrooms so that my parents could stay at one level and my siblings and I would stay at the other level.

LEE JYE NEE

I chose the Lion's Big Cake as my submission for CoL because I've enjoyed this task. This task is about dividing the cake up for the animals and it is either dividing fraction by 2 or multiplying each fraction by 1/2. This year, I have learned many new concepts in Math for instance, ratio, rate, percentage and area of triangles. I look forward to learning more interesting concepts next year in P6.

LEE XUE YING

I could complete 65 jumps in 30 seconds, that will make 130 skips in a minute. This is what I have learned in Rate. Rate is a relationship between 2 different units of measurement. If I have 30 minutes, I could have completed 3900 skips. I am proud of my achievement.

LIM JING QI

This is my submission for the Family Math activity called the Infinite Chocolate. Even though I removed one piece out, the size still looked the same but the area of the chocolate bar is reduced as there was one less piece of chocolate. The difference of one piece affects the length of another piece. From here, I understand that even though some sizes look the same, they still may have a different area.

LIM LIANG TING

I did a bar graph based on my number of heartbeats after 3 minutes of jumping. It was high at first, but it decreased over time. I chose to do a bar graph instead of a line graph as the decrease in the number of heartbeats would be clearer when I use a bar graph.

LIM YAN BOE

I used 41 seconds to solve the rubrix cube puzzle. Solving the puzzle gives me a chance to learn about a prospect of math called rate. I can count how many turns I could do per second. This LWT lesson has taught me numerous things about math skills. Most math skills are related to math but I also learn many not related to math things like technology skills, etc. In addition, I also learn how to apply math skills into real life.

LIN RUIYANG

I chose the chocolate picture because it was very fun and interesting. The chocolate retained its shape despite it being cut. The area of the chocolate decreased in area but the shape remained.

LIU YUQIAO

This is my chosen task from LwT. I coloured the different animal's share with different colours to represent the portion of the cake. In this task, I learned how to identify the fraction of a fraction or fraction divide by 2. I am happy I am able to come up with the solution for this task.

LUO YUECHENG

My most important learning point in this task is that there are more than one way to solve the problem. I am proud of my piece of work submitted as it looks very neat and very few of my classmates managed to come up with the solutions. This slanted square is not an easy concept to see and I scored a full mark on this piece of work.

MELODY TEO SU XIN

I took 30 min to put 95/100 pieces of a puzzle together. I learned that I could measure my speed of solving this puzzle by using rate. At this rate, I would be able to complete the puzzle in 2 more minutes. Ive learnt new concepts and topics which were ratio, area of triangles, parallelograms, rhombuses and trapeziums this year. I also realised how important a model was when doing word problems or heuristics. Models help me to visualise and make sense of the information in the problem sums.

MIIA ZHAO JUNXI

I had fun doing this LwT as it involves thinking and exercising. Also, rate is one of my favourite topics in Math. I learnt that doing different activities involves rate. This was such a fun activity and an amazing learning experience for me to learn more about rate!

NEO YUAN HAO BRENDAN

I did this secret morse code of words for family math this year. It involved me creating my own morse code and creating a sentence/ few words with the morse code i wrote myself.

NG YI GE

My existing flat has three toilets, a living room and three bedrooms. One room is the study room while the master bedroom. I think the kitchen should be bigger as my mother loves to make home-made sauces and sometimes, she does not have enough space to all the ingredients on the kitchen table. The Math concept for this activity is area, shapes and area.

ONG JENG XUAN

This is my experiment on estimation. I placed the apple into a beaker of water and measured the amount of water displaced which would represent the volume of apple. I had to push the apple into the water to ensure that it fully submerged in the water so that the complete volume of the apple was captured. My learning journey in P5 Math has been a roller-coaster and I hope to improve in my results in P6.

ONG ZU YING, ASHLYN

I have learned more about shapes, if we can cut the shape in a certain way, we can get back the same shape. Like what we did with the chocolate bar. I am proud of it as I think I could do it nicely without help and it was very fun, the part about it that I enjoyed the most is it being a hands-on activity. It is very interactive, which makes me think that the activity being interactive is the fun part.

PRINCETON ANG QI HUA

This was my family math assignment where you are supposed to make up a secret code and let the reader find out the secret message. I created my own secret message.

QI HUANCHANG

My reflection for my math COL is the LWT 4, The Best Clapper. In this task, we need to take a short video clip of us do something in one minute and find the rate of our action in one minute. I choose to try typing on monkey type and see how many words I can type in one minute. I manage to type 44 words in 30 seconds, so that mean I can type 88 words per minute. From this task, I learned more about rate and how can use them to find the speed of something. I choose this piece because this piece is the best of my work and it help me to understand deeper of rate.

RAMESH ROSHAN

I TOOK 1 MINUTE TO DRIBBLE THE BASKETBALL . I DRIBBLED THE BALL 117 TIMES PER MINUTE. THE MATH CONCEPT, RATE IS INCLUDED IN THIS. IF I HAVE 5 MORE MINUTES I CAN DRIBBLE THE BALL MORE THAN 700 TIMES. AT THE START OF THE YEAR I WAS SCARED THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THE PACE OF THE LEARNING. BUT MY MATH TEACHER EXPLAINED THE TOPICS VERY WELL AND CLEARLY, THUS I COULD FOLLOW THEPACE OF LEARNING. MY FAVOURITE TOPIC WAS GEOMETRY AS IT WAS FUN TO SOLVE THE QUESTION.

REANN WAN MAN YEUI

I chose this activity for my CoL and did a line graph to represent the change of the temperature over a period of time. I learnt that it is better to use a line graph instead of a bar graph as the changes in the temperature would be clearer and easier to see. I chose not to use a bar graph as it would be harder to tell the difference in the temperature when the changes are small. I found this activity interesting as I had to go check out other websites just to check the Singapore’s weather.

ROXANNE YEO

I was actually not confident in Fractions and I did not like the work on this topic. I gradually improve over time, thanks to work like this LwT task which I had enjoyed. I got to watch a video on an e-story book then based on the information, decided how the big cake could be cut and shared among all the animals. Now I feel I am getting somewhere with Fractions and I'm not too anxious about this topic.

SONG MING XUAN, JOHN

I pushed the soccer ball against my feet and counted the number of times I coulld successfully do that for a minute. I managed to do it for a total of 176 pushes/min. I am hope to beat the world's record set by Lionel Messi who had an average of 4.65 successful dribbles every 90 minutes. This is the LwT task in which we had to compute the rate of a repeated action to see how many we could accomplish in a unit of time.

TAN CHEREE

I chose this LWT because I think over this year my understanding of fractions is better compared to the last few years. Throughout the whole year, I also learned many new math topics/concepts and I understood most of them.

TAN JIA EN

I chose this task( what’s on the receipt) of the family math booklet because when I was doing this, I had to make an effort to find a receipt. Finding GST and discount is a life skill we should learn so I learned that GST and discount are amount of percentages that tells you what percentage lesser or more depending of the total price. This task made me understand the GST and discount better. It also reminds me that mathematics is not hard we just have to understand an I would keep on improving.

TAN JONE HEY

I chose this task because receipts are easily found in my house. We can calculate the GST by taking the total, dividing by 100 and multiplying by the rate of GST. It is an important skill to learn how to calculate GST and discount as it affects our spending & help us save us money. I feel proud of it as I have completed the entire booklet properly and with thought while others may not have completed the booklet or did not think much before doing the tasks. I also enjoyed drawing the comics.

TAN RUI QI

This task challenged me to cut the cake according to the portions given to each animal. I had fun doing the task. My math journey throughout Primary 5 has had many twists and turns but overall, I have learned many math concepts.

TAN SHANG YI

Out of all the Math work, I think my Family Math booklet is the most significant piece of work to me. I get to brainstorm with my family and learn how to map out my apartment. Through this task, I realised that Math isn't just a subject I learn, but I am actually applying the ideas of area and space and measurement into this task. Throughout this year, I do my best to revise my math, and I found that I'm very good in ratio topic. I learn a lot of math concepts and I hope to be less careless next time in my work.

WANG HAOYU

This is the Family Math activity in which I learned to decode secret message using the given symbols. It is fun and interesting and I even created my own personal codes and secret message to test my classmates.

WANG YUZHE

I learnt how to use the multiplication of fraction to calculate how much cake each animal get. I have enjoyed myself completing this task because I get to read the e-story book. The story is interesting and it shows the division of cake and the reverse in which the number of cakes baked by each animal doubled.

XU SHITING

I chose a random page on my math journal because I felt I did a good job on this journaling. My math journal best represents my learning in Math throughout Primary 5 as I spent a lot of effort on taking down notes. My journal recorded notes on whole numbers, fractions, area of triangle etc. Whenever I am unsure about a topic, I would refer to my notes.

YANG YIXUAN

In this activity, I learned that simple symbols can be shown as words that we use today. Based on the given clues, I could use the symbols to help people decipher secret messages. I had a lot of fun creating my personal symbols and sentences.

YEE WEN JIE

I typed 134 characters in 30 seconds. Which means I would type 268 characters in 1 minute, the math concept is rate . This year I learnt a lot of new topics such as rate, ratio and triangles. I also learnt that model drawing is extremely important as it would help us to visualise the question.

ZHANG YUXIANG, SHAWN

I submitted my heartbeat record for my CoL. For my heartbeat rate lesson, we needed to count the number of heartbeats per min and calculate the rate before making a spreadsheet and drafting out a line graph. I chose to draft out a line graph as the line graph allows me to compare the growth of the rate of the heartbeat.
