Missouri Arts Regional Champions Network

Cooperating organizations include MAAE, MAEA, MMEA, Missouri Citizens for the Arts, MO Thespians. We welcome other partners in this effort. Questions? email director@moaae.org.

Adopt-a-Legislator

MAAE is working with partners from arts education organizations to build a statewide coalition of arts advocates we call "Arts Champions." Our partners in Missouri Citizens for the Arts have created an Adopt-a-Legislator program. The goal is to partner 34 MO Senators and 163 MO Representatives with an arts advocate in their district, to build relationships and help increase understanding about the impact of pending legislation on the arts and arts ed. Use the signup genius link to join the effort.

Our partners at MCA have added a very helpful tool in communicating the impact of the Missouri Arts Council (MAC) as an attachment within Signup Genius. In the "related file" section you can find all MAC grants statewide, sorted by each legislator. Please use it to share info about the specific MAC grants in your adopted legislator's district. It is especially compelling for elected officials to see that MAC grants are helping the communities they represent by helping local arts organizations.

MAAE Legislative Advocacy at Work

MAAE is carefully watching several bills being considered in Missouri's house and senate which may have an impact on arts programs across the state, and on education in general. MAAE has convened a legislative watch committee which includes Chair, Jeff Sandquist, Vice-Chair, Tom Tobias and Former chair, Dr. Robert Gifford. They are working to prepare position statements and testimony to inform legislators as needed. Sandquist testified before the Senate Education Committee on 1/19/21 about the impact of Senate Bill 55. The team also helped prepare the recent call-to-action related to SCS/SBs 55, 25 & 23. To learn more about the bills being watched and MAAE's response click here.
