Early Learning Task Force Underway

The work has begun to examine this complex issue. The November sessions were attended by eight individuals from a variety of sectors: practicing teachers in both non-arts and arts, those who work with preservice teachers at the collegiate level, and educational leaders. Our task force will continue to engage in listening and learning activities through December and January, and plans to present a preliminary report in February.

Become a part of the conversation! MAAE is seeking additional arts educators, early childhood educators, parents, early childhood arts specialists, teaching artists and anyone interested in exploring current issues in providing high quality arts education experiences for Missouri's youngest learners.   TO REGISTER for a December session click the day/time preferred.  12/15 @ noon-1pm - or - 12/15 @ 7-8pm

Invite colleagues and co-workers. Please help spread the word!

Arts for Health and Wellness

In a recent article from the Education Commission of the States, author Mary Dell’Erba explore the connection between arts education and student wellness. Entitled "Supporting Student Wellness through the Arts" the article outlines the benefits of involving the arts, arts educators and other arts professionals in helping students and communities recover and to promote mental health and well-being. It discusses involving the arts more deeply, the use of a trauma-informed approach to build social-emotional competencies and to promote healing. It also speaks of embedding work in the arts into professional development, and other ways of improving school climate.
