MAAE helped the Missouri All-State Festival Choir be able to perform at Missouri’s
Bicentennial Statehood Day on 8.10.21. In collaboration with Missouri Choral Directors Association, the choir performed music which featured connections to Missouri, poets, composers and arrangers. A composition called "JOY!" by Hans Bridger Heruth (Liberty, MO) with four-hand accompaniment performed by the composer and his mother Dr. Rika Heruth (Liberty High School). The song "We Shall Overcome" arranged by Robert Gibson who teaches at Reed Academy in Springfield Public Schools, was performed, with the arranger as featured soloist, and ended with an audience sing-a-long of Lift Every Voice and Sing." The students also performed the our National Anthem and "An American Hymn" at the U.S. Naturalization Ceremony welcoming 35 new U.S. Citizens which was held following the Statehood Day Ceremony.

Integrating Drama with Math and Science may seem the unlikeliest of endeavors, but there are key alignments between the art form and the two core disciplines. The characters in a story have unique characteristics and interrelationships; in a similar vein, numbers, shapes, operations, properties, elements, landforms, simple machines, and other mathematical and scientific concepts can be seen as groups of unique and interrelated characters, a 'cast' that can be brought to life through Drama. In this workshop we will go beyond specific problem-solving to think about how a series of interconnected, very easy-to-implement Drama strategies –Sociometrics, Characterization, Hot Seat, and Improvisation – can strengthen visualization, awareness of multiple pathways, and appreciation of underlying structures and patterns that are the building blocks of Mathematical and Scientific thinking. Sponsored by Utah State University Arts Are Core series.
At the August 21, 2021 meeting of the MAAE Board of Directors, MAAE's commitment to arts integration advocacy was reaffirmed and the following four aspects of the committee's ongoing efforts were approved:

4. Research attitudes and best practices to support and recruit wider

learning.

With over $ 1.9 Billion in federal funding* coming to Missouri for education, the state plans for Missouri have been submitted and are awaiting approval. MAAE is always interested in helping school arts education programs receive financial support. Decisions for the use of these funds are primarily at the local level and the spending will occur over the next three years. It may not be too late! There is a chance, that even if your district has already made decisions, there may be funds available at a later time. The request for YOUR arts program might move closer to the top of the list!

Opportunities for in-person visits, and (some) school field trips as well as a virtual interactive components comprise this learning experience. “The exhibit may be called St. Louis Sound, but it’s really the sound of America,” said Andrew Wanko, public historian, and content lead on the exhibit. “We are the last eastern city, the gateway to the west, equal parts north and south — for decades St. Louis artists have absorbed all of the greatest parts of our country’s music and created something new. Scott Joplin, Josephine Baker, Chuck Berry, Albert King, Ike and Tina Turner, Miles Davis, Clark Terry, Nelly, and more weren’t just music legends known worldwide, they were formative influences on the rest of the country’s music."
