The death of George Floyd has prompted many organizations to make statements of support for the idea of dismantling systemic racism and bias. Not content with a statement only, MAAE is choosing this moment to underscore the aspects of our mission which promotes, and advocates for the benefit of ALL Missourians. Read our diversity statement here. An action plan is being developed and we will inform you of opportunities to be a part of this important work. If you have questions or want to become involved, email director@moaae.org.
The Missouri Arts Council recognizes that now, more than ever, we need to recognize our arts heroes. From arts teachers who inspire a child for a lifetime; to the communities where the arts make it a great place to live, work and create. From leaders who make the arts happen; to artists and arts organizations whose creativity makes us glad to be alive; and the philanthropists whose generosity makes it possible. Nominate Missourians who have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state and philanthropists, where the beneficiary is a Missouri organization (although the nominee may be nonresident.) The deadline is noon on Monday, August 31, 2020. Link to nomination form here.
NOT just for visual artists! Although sponsored by MAEA, this contest welcomes submissions from both members and non-members across ALL arts disciplines.

Training the next generation of arts advocates, the SHOW-ME Arts program (SMarts) provides information, training and role-playing activities for students - who then apply those skills by meeting with their legislators. Previously these training sessions were held the evening that preceded Fine Arts Education Day and participants arranged for meetings with their legislator to coincide with the other Fine Arts celebrations at the capitol the next day.
With social distancing and travel restrictions, plans are in the works to host regional training sessions in YOUR area. Stay tuned for more details. We'd love to work with you and your students!

Since 2004, the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education has sponsored a Fine Arts Education Day at the Missouri State Capitol to highlight the importance of fine arts education in Missouri schools. Typically held on a Wednesday of the spring legislative season, the Missouri State Capitol comes alive with vocal and instrumental ensemble performances, dance groups and theatrical presentations. Performance venues have included the First Floor Capitol Rotunda, the Capitol steps and the Carnahan Governor's Garden east of the Capitol building.
With the challenges of a post COVID-19 world, we are in the process of reimagining what this large scale event might look like for Fine Arts Education Day 2021. Virtual performances and visits with legislators will certainly be a part of the options. Consider participating and STAY TUNED as our plans develop. We'd love to have you involved.
