Course overview
At the start of the Spring Term, Cohort 10 learners will be completing their study of Conflict and Tension in Asia during the Cold War. In January learners will be examining why America withdrew from and lost the Vietnam war, examining the factors that led to the first military defeat America experienced. This will include studies of the media, the protests and others. Learners will also be studying the Watergate scandal and then will complete an end of unit assessment.
After completing the Vietnam War, learners will begin their study of the Norman Conquest of England. This unit sees learners studying the AQA British Depth Study Norman England 1066-c.1100. This falls under the Shaping the Nation element of the course. This option allows students to study in depth the arrival of the Normans and the establishment of their rule. The depth study will focus on major aspects of Norman rule, considered from economic, religious, political, social and cultural standpoints of this period and arising contemporary and historical controversies. During this term, learners will focus on the events of 1066 and the battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings following the succession crisis that resulted from the death of Edward the confessor.
At the end of the Spring term, learners will begin revision for their mock exams and will be revising the 3 units they have studied up to this point: Health and the people, the Cold War in Asia and Germany: Democracy and Dictatorship.
