Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
During the first half term, Study Period 1, learners will study Radio and Music Videos. Their close study products include Radio 1 with an in-depth look at the launch of Radio 1 with the Tony Blackburn Breakfast Show in 1967, and the Kiss Breakfast Show on KISS FM. They will consider the history of radio, the impetus behind the launch of Radio 1, and the ways in which changing technologies have impacted on the ways audiences consume music. During the second half of the study period, learners will study the history and development of music video, focusing in particular on Arctic Monkeys’ ‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’ and Blackpink’s ‘How You Like That’.
During the second half term, Study Period 2, learners will move on to study film with a focus on film industries. The close study products for the unit are the films ‘Black Widow’ and ‘I, Daniel Blake’, and learners will compare the production and marketing of each film, considering the differences between independent and ‘Big Six’ blockbuster films.
