Business Studies Autumn Term

Learners will continue their GCSE journey by studying the unit of work “Influences on Business”. This unit of work incorporates a variety of different topics that may appear in both Paper 1 or Paper 2 of the GCSE. Learners need to understand the impact of the changing use of ICT and how it influences business activity including E-commerce and digital communication. Learners will also learn how to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how business and consumers accept greater environmental responsibility in their decision making and the costs and benefits of businesses behaving this way. Ethical considerations and sustainability are also addressed in this unit of work.

A challenging economics topic of how fluctuating interest rates can affect businesses that rely on overdrafts and loans for finance as well as the effect on consumer and business spending is also covered.

Topics also covered: Legislation including Employment Law, Health and Safety Law, Consumer Law. Competitive environment – the uncertainty and risks businesses face.

The unit of work is finished by learners producing a 4 lesson Case Study – this allows the learners to apply the knowledge learned to a virtual business in preparation for their summative End of Unit assessment before the Xmas holidays.

Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, verbal feedback, written feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and whole class feedback.
