Time 4 Design
Your challenge is to design and make a TIMEPIECE based on a chosen building within a chosen architectural style. In order to achieve this you will need to carry out the following:
1 Look at a range of architectural styles and choose the one that you like best.
2 Look at a range of buildings that have been designed and built in your chosen style and choose one.
3 a. Develop a range of ideas that represent the chosen building. b. Choose one for further development and justify your choice
4 Develop this idea into a final Timepiece solution.
5 Model your idea in CAD and produce an orthographic, working drawing.
6 Manufacture your chosen solution using appropriate materials and safe construction techniques.
7 Evaluate your idea against your design specification
You will be assessed using the MYP 4 Design Criteria, be sure to meet each strand below:
A. Inquiring and Analysing
Asi. Who will you make you time piece for.
Asii Research plan- what do you need to find out? Carry out your research (put in appendix)
Asiii Analyse exisitng products using ACCESSFM- Architectural influenced clocks
Asiv Summarise your research analysis in the BRIEF
B. Developing Ideas
Bii Develop ideas- lots of sketches!
Biii a. Choose one of your ideas and say why you chose it.
b. List and justify your choice of materials.
C. Creating Solutions
Ci Create a logical plan - each stage of the production needs to be listed.
Cii Demonnstrate skills (take photos)
Ciii . Create your clock
Civ Justify changes made.
D. Evaluating
Di= how are you going to test your clock- come up with some methods.
Dii= Did you meet your specifications (bi)
Diii=Based on your evaluation findings, what recommendations would you make to improve the solution next time. Show this with further drawings.
Div=Reflect on the impact of your solution. How has your product impacted on your client?
Right: Your design will need to incorporate a clock mechanism you will be given.
Dimensions for which can be see in the drawing on the right. (Nguyen and MacDonald's model was drawn by Clifford) is this MLA 8?
Dont forget to check the dimensions of the hands!
