Time 4 Design
Find and contact your client and arrange an interview with them. Follow the procedure in the OWL slides above.
Conduct an interview or survey to gather initial information from your client/target audience.
Use THIS TEMPLATE to help you create your questions
Explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem (see link page for further details)
TASK 4
Develop a Research plan , which identifies and prioritises primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem. You can use ACCESSFM to help generate ideas.
DAY 3 TASK 5
Complete your research and, at the end of the report list your sources (see link page for further details)
DAY 4 TASK 6
Analyse a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem . Use ACCESSFM as a guide. You might want to check Gather.town for examples. Explore the official gather templates here Or, check out custom spaces that were created for sale here .And check out the Design Studio here (created by Nguyen G10).See an example analysis here.
DAY 5 TASK 7
Develop a detailed Design Brief, conclude all the key points you have found from doing your research. (see link page for further details)
Write a complete bibliography and refer to appendices in MLA format
i. A detailed explanation and justification of the problem, using at least 2 aspects of well developed evidence / supporting research (statistics, quotations, surveys and analysis, images, interviews, etc…) which go beyond simply describing and explaining both the topic and audience, to explain and justify how they are connected. Guideline: 200-400 words, not including quotes - quality over quantity.
There must be evidence that the student has identified and justified the following:
What is the problem?
Whose problem is it? (Identify the client/target market.)
Where is the problem occurring? (Identify the situation.)
What is the cause of the problem?
What effect is it having?
ii. Independently generate 10+ detailed SMART and appropriate questions, which are clearly prioritized (Top 3 must be in a logical order) and identified as the specific type of primary and secondary research sources, to help develop the solution focused on:
Aesthetics
Cost
Client/Target Audience
Environmental considerations
Size/Time
Safety/Technical Skills
Function
Materials
iii. 3+ products are all analyzed in detail (using ACCESS FM). Appropriate usage of subject specific vocabulary - the elements of design - Aesthetic and functional elements.
iv. Write a summary of the collected research, with appropriate images, which tie together the findings from the student’s research and how it will affect their project. Include a coherent design brief (in paragraph form) that connects the clients’ needs, and how the student’s product intends to solve the problem and any potential constraints (such as time, materials, etc.). Guidance: 500 MAXIMUM words, not including citations. Include the word count.
The design brief must highlight the following aspects of the students research
Aesthetics
Cost
Client/Target Audience
Environmental considerations
Size/Time
Safety/Technical Skills
Function
Materials
