Time 4 Design
1. Design detailed and relevant authentic testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution.
Authentic tests: The tests are relevant to the project and are completed by appropriate testers to gain high-quality quantitative and qualitative feedback.
An effective and authentic measure of a design solution means that you the student have tested against every aspect of the design specification.
These tests can be classified as follows:
Expert Appraisal – Librarian, Elementary teacher, Parent
User Testing – reading to lower elementary students
Comparison review against a existing Print
Performance or Use test
2. Critically evaluate the success of the print design book against the design specification based on authentic product testing.
When critically evaluating the success of a solution, students must objectively judge the solution against the specifications. This objective evaluation comes from analysing the data gathered by carrying out the tests designed.
Students must analyse this data and make conclusions that identify strengths and weaknesses of the solution, along with opportunities for further development
3. Explain, in detail, how the identified weaknesses and limitations of the Print could be improved. Also identify strengths as this can lead to linked
improvements.
How can students identify how the solution could be improved?
Through the objective evaluation of their solution, students should have identified weaknesses in their solutions. These weaknesses provide opportunities for further development and allow students to consider how they would refine their solution further.
Students can suggest these improvements in many forms or a combination, including:
Annotation and screenshots of certain aspects of your Print that was identified as a weakness
Adapting further the functionality and mechanisms
Suggesting better choice of Print development material
Modifying the Design Specification
Explaining through developing skills would improve …
4. Explain the impact of the solution on the client or target audience.
To identify or predict the impact that a solution will have on a client or target audience, students must refer to the original problem, the design brief, the specification
and the evaluation.
Students should use these aspects to draw conclusions about how well the design brief has been met.
These conclusions may be presented in written form, as a list or as a table.
5. Check Rubric before submission
Task Specific Clarification
Task 1
Design and complete a test that will gather data to help you understand if you have been successful in creating a successful
product.
Chose one of the following options to complete:
Option 1:
Compile a survey aimed at your target audience. The questions should be written to give you data and feedback on whether your
book has been successful, based on your original specifications and design situation.
you could use Google Forms, or Survey Monkey to do this (or any other platform you know of).
Turn the data you have created in the survey into graphs or charts.
Explain what conclusions you can make from this data, and how this is helping you solve the design situation and met your specifications.
Option 2:
Conduct an Interview with your client, or an expert to ask if you have been successful.
The questions should be written to give you data and feedback on whether your book has been successful, based on your original
specifications and design situation.
Include your questions and their responses in your project folder.
Explain what conclusions you can make from this interview, and how this is helping you solve the design situation and met your specifications.
Task 2
Effectively evaluate the success of your print design against the design specifications.
Task 3
Explain how the product could be improved
Task 4
Explain the impact your print has had on your client/target audience (written in your design situation, criterion A)
Do you expect a 7-8 Grade for this criterion? Check Rubric before submission!
