· THE DESIGN SITUATION SHOULD IDENTIFY A PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES SOLVING. THE DESIGN SITUATION SHOULD BE BACKED UP WITH EVIDENCE OF THE NEED.
THIS WILL GENERALLY GO ALONG THE LINES AS FOLLOWS:

Art Deco/Memphis Clock: Criterion A
In this unit students, and more explicitly myself, are required to build and manufacture a clock which require or embrace some elements of two vintage yet extremely popular and well-known design movements: the Art Deco and Memphis design movements. These two movements were brought back from the past and are used in many aspects of modern Design. Many of products that have adopted these design features are also engendered by Social Media and Trends. This is one of the reasons why it has become so popular amongst the adolescent community. And why clocks based around these two movements will be very popular regardless of their purpose as boring machines, which tell time. There are many possible ways that the clock can be used especially because they will be so popular. The Unit will end in the culmination of knowledge and a final product, which are all made up of the subunits such as Criterion A. The final product should be given to the original stakeholders which the design need was made for. The success rate of the product will be dependent on the end-user and therefore a lot of consideration has to be made when adding features and certain things such as colors to the product. The clock has to be carefully crafted from the knowledge learned in this unit and the design brief to successfully be a Memphis/Art Deco Clock.
Communities revolve around order, and to have order there needs to be a sense of bearing. One of these factors, which help communities function, is time and management. Which also relates to the Global Context: Orientation in time and space. The time between the movements and its use today relate to time and space as well as how the movements were oriented to be both brought back from the past. It gives us an idea of how these aesthetic ideas have their own form and function but still being from a 1925 movement. The function or purpose of the product can be very different but in our case we design a clock, which can be used for many purposes. The clock can come in many forms especially because of the uncontrolled boundaries both design movements have. And lastly the statement of inquiry, which revolves around the idea that people’s sense of different aesthetic designs changes according to time and the culture, that surrounds them. Since both of these movements were based in very rapidly changing communities in terms of cultures, a lot of the designs were influenced by the past events going on in that region. Such as the Art Deco Movement which flourished after World War 1 and was influenced by the Machine age and Industrialization between both wars.
