  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZDpmN5apF8&t Published on Dec 3, 2019 "CATHEDRAL” is an excellent, ground-breaking PBS TV special that combines colorful animation with live-action documentary sequences to tell the story of the step-by-step building of a fictitious Catholic cathedral in thirteenth century France. Based on the book by David Macaulay, "Cathedral" references the real cathedrals of the day, looks at the challenges of building such huge structures, given the available technology of the time, explains why they were of such importance to medieval life, and how they remain so today, seven hundred years later. David Macaulay and Caroline Berg explore the medieval cathedral architecture through the fictional animated story of the rebuilding of such a cathedral in the middle ages after a disastrous fire. I remember how much I enjoyed watching and re-watched this TV special in the 1980s whenever it would air on Maryland Pubic Television.
