Context
As part of the MIT NAE relationship a new challenge gets released every term. This terms was based around <code for good> an initiative that encourages young people to use their IT and computing skills in the community. The introductory video is below.
BIS HCMC works with many community partners, and the 5 listed below are in no way "premier", they were the 5 we chose for this activity.
During WWW in May, year 8 were invited to learn more about the 5 partners listed below
Then using the STEAM cycle of :
Analyse the problem
Design solutions to the problem before you start building
Build your solutions
Evaluate how successful you were
The young people were invited to see how they could help these vital community partners. The brief was to be as creative as possible. Below is a year 8 imagined critique of the digital media of their offerings, where the gaps are, and how the students could improve these offerings
The offerings are submitted in their entirety and are showcased in the spirit of helping BIS HCMC Year 8 achieve the learning objectives of:
Raise awareness of people and creatures less fortunate
To use the STEAM cycle to look at an existing organisation and see how the existing digital offerings could be improved.
