Year 13
Autumn 23 - Advice for parents at parents evening.
As we come to the end of the first term of the Digital Society course, we can reflect on achievements so far.
The IA is in, so thats 30% (SL) and 20% (HL) of the course completed.
There is a wealth of experience of paper 1 long answer questions, both SL and HL. Both groups have progressed such a long way from August 2022. This was identified to me as a weakness of past students of the course, which I hope has been rectified.
3/4 of the content has been covered.
So where does that leave the rest of the course?
Mocks in January will consist of Paper 2 (SL & HL) and Paper 3 (HL) only
There has to be a sustained period of time for preparation for the Paper 3 case study, both Mock and Actual.
Still 25% of the course material to cover.
We are on track and whilst not complacent, I am not unduly worried. There is work to do and all students are responding.
So, how can I (parent) help?
The more reading the student does, the wider the resources they have to write about in the questions. Refer back to the curriculum pages here for ideas on reading.
Talk about Digital Society Stories at the dining table, (or wherever you spend time as a family). The whole point of the course is to be able to recognise the consequence of a development in our digital society upon people and communities.
Read essay answers, discuss what was written about, but recognise that I am happy with the progress being made. If you haven't heard from me since last year then everything is going fine.
