Introduction
Your STEAM task this week without walls is to further your understanding of lighting in the context of lighting a stage. There is also a large element of sculpting and creating your own character. Blender is free software which is very powerful and is a fantastic way to improve your ICT and Computer skills within an artistic framework.
The video should take about 90 minutes to work through, and creating your final image and submitting the form at the end around 10 minutes. This should give you around 30 minutes to create your character.
If you finish super quick, how else can you add to your scene? A floor? Other characters? The limit really is your imagination.
Lets begin by looking at a YouTube video that explores light.

Here is the video walkthrough for creating and lighting the stage. Render your final scene with around 15 minutes to go and submit it on the form here.
You can submit as many images as you like, so submit your image of Suzanne, (this will make sense later) and also your own sculpture.

I look forward to seeing what you produce.
FAQ's
As we begin to work through this project there are a few issues that are causing some people to get stuck. Before you speak to a teacher, see if your question has been asked before:
"I have zoomed out too far/too near, how do I go back to centre?" - Try pressing Shift and C to reset the view to centre.
"I cannot move my point light" - This may be a glitch in Blender, try switching the light type to sun, does this allow you to adjust the light
How do I move the Camera?
How do I merge Objects together?
Video 2 - 3D modelling 1
If you complete lighting your monkey and also sculpt your own character, and want another tutorial from me to follow, look at this video as it will show how to create a 3D shape and add colour to it.
The follow up video turns your 3D object into a scene.
Video 3 - 3D modelling 2
Finished?
Super work, well done :) Make sure you have submitted the form so I can see what you have produced. I will be sharing the results with Drama, Physics, Art, English as well as Computing as there are lots of applications for what you have been learning in many different scenarios.
What now though?
Have a look at some of the tutorials that are on youtube. Some channels to investigate include
https://www.youtube.com/@blenderguru/about
https://www.youtube.com/@SketchySquirrel
https://www.youtube.com/@BlenderOfficial
But there are many more you can look at. Or add complexity to your scene, use the 3D modelling skills to build furniture for your room? You may have done this in class.
Most importantly, have fun and be creative - I look forward to seeing what you produce.
Mood
"Thats a mood" means something to teenagers. It also means something to filmmakers and photographers. Try adjusting the lighting to suit a mood. Scary? Warm? Cold? Funny? Out of this world? All of these moods can be influenced by lighting. Try it, and work on some of your own.
A selection of finished renders will be displayed here.
