Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to announce the highly anticipated MIT STEAM trip taking place in November 2025. This incredible opportunity is not just a journey; it's an exploration of the limitless potential within each student. Here’s an overview of this unique experience to share the excitement and ensure your child is well-prepared if selected.
A Transformational Experience
The MIT STEAM trip is a once-in-a-lifetime event designed to ignite creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking. Students will immerse themselves in the dynamic environment of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), engaging with cutting-edge STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) disciplines. Through hands-on workshops, lab tours, and real-world challenges, participants will connect with like-minded peers, collaborate on innovative projects, and interact with some of the brightest minds in academia.
A Competitive Selection Process
To secure a spot, students must demonstrate their motivation and creativity through a competitive application involving a poster and video submission. Details have been emailed out to all eligible students and parents, (current year 9 & 11 students only). Only 66 students will be selected from Nord Anglia schools worldwide, making it a prestigious opportunity for those who rise to the challenge.
What to Expect on the Trip
Students will spend their week at a centrally located hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just a short walk from the MIT campus. The itinerary includes orientation activities, workshops, and engaging challenges such as building robots or devising solutions to real-world issues like climate change. There will also be opportunities to explore MIT’s labs, visit the MIT Museum, and enjoy a guided tour of Harvard.
Safety and Support First
Students will be accompanied by experienced chaperones and supported by a high staff-to-student ratio. Comprehensive travel insurance and 24-hour medical assistance via International SOS ensure your child’s well-being throughout the trip. While technology use will be limited to enhance the immersive experience, there will be scheduled opportunities for students to connect with family back home.
Preparation and Key Information
Selected students will participate in pre-trip webinars to prepare for the adventure and build connections with their peers. Adequate fitness is recommended, as the experience involves significant walking. Families are advised to arrange visas and essential documentation well in advance. The total cost for competition winners is approximately $2,600, covering accommodation, meals, activities, and insurance. Additional expenses, such as flights and personal spending money, are separate.
The Journey Ahead
Beyond the memories created, this trip aims to equip students with lifelong skills, from collaboration and resilience to innovative problem-solving. The experience aligns with Nord Anglia’s commitment to fostering future-ready learners who are prepared to thrive in our rapidly evolving world.
We encourage all interested students to participate in the competition. For further details, please contact Mr. Astbury. Let’s embark on this exciting journey together!
Warm regards,
BIS HCMC STEAM Team
