The review questions are provided as an aid in studying. They are similar to the questions that will appear on quizzes during the semester.
How can satellite imagery be used to assess the accuracy of a short-range model forecast?
Answer
One can use satellite imagery to determine the true position and, to some extent, the intensity, of major storm systems and upper level jets and troughs. These aspects of the current weather can be compared to the short-range model forecast. Any differences imply errors in the longer-range forecasts from the same model run.
