The Weather Challenge is a national forecasting challenge for all Undergraduate, Graduate and PhD students that began in 2005. Participants forecast for 10 cities throughout both the Fall and Spring semesters. Each forecaster is scored for the accuracy of their forecast, with error points being given according to how far off the forecast is from what happens. We'll go further into the scoring and the forecast itself on future pages.
Participation in the WxChallenge is an excellent way to build your forecasting skills outside of class, and helps you prepare for your future in meteorology! To participate, you must sign up through your Local Manager. At the writing of this tutorial, the cost is $5 for the year, or $3 per semester if you don't wish to participate the full year. This fee is used towards trophies, plaques, mailing costs, and other administrative costs for the University of Oklahoma, who runs the WxChallenge.
