Have you ever had a math teacher that was born to teach math? Or a history teacher who you could never imagine teaching any other subject? Well we interviewed teachers and asked them what subjects they would choose if they had to switch and some of the answers may shock you. Mrs. Furlong teaches creative baking and she wrote that in the event she had to choose a different subject to teach she would pick Biology. She explained that she really enjoyed science during her years at school and views baking as another form of science. Mrs. Furlong is a registered dietitian so it makes sense that she would have an interest in Biology. Next up is Mr. Brown, the advanced US History teacher. When asked he replied saying that if he was going to pick a new subject he would pick English. He chose this because he’s a strong writer and he really enjoys reading. Our third teacher is Mr. Wilgus. He is currently teaching Math and Physics and he had quite an interesting answer to our question, when asked to pick something new he chose Spanish. It makes a lot of sense when you take into consideration his care free vibe. Mr. Wilgus stated that he would enjoy teaching Spanish because during his time at Southern he took a liking to Spanish class. It’s a skill he uses often and he believes it would be nice for students to see that someone can become proficient in a language through work and effort. Last but not least we have Mr. Brosniak who is in charge of teaching Physical Education, Drivers Education, and Health. You might be surprised to hear that if he had to be placed in another position he would choose an art teacher! For a while Mr. Brosniak was actually an art major, and he considered doing many different things such as graphic design and medicine before eventually landing on Physical Education. Although all these teachers have other things that they're skilled at, when asked if they ever planned to switch subjects they all gave a unanimous no. All of these teachers have something that draws them into their current subject and keeps them teaching it year after year. Mr. Brosniak has fun with sports and coaching, Mrs. Furlong wants to see people learn to cook for themselves, Mr. Wilgus finds Math and Physics interesting, and Mr. Brown just wants an excuse to talk about History.
