Since I can remember my summers have been filled with packing the car, rushing from sailing practice or a summer camp, and somehow fit in time to relax at the beach. This is common for most active kids during the summer. In an article about summer camp benefits, author Henrike Nietzold states, “Over 26 million children and adults enroll in summer camps across the United States”. Many camps offer a variety of activities including the sport of sailing. Having sailed all my life I have a clear understanding of the importance of getting your children involved with sailing.
Unlike your common sports like football, soccer or lacrosse, sailing builds fundamental skills that help improve a child’s problem solving skills, teamwork abilities and physical fitness. Stated in an article by Health Fitness Revolution, sailing benefits one’s muscle strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and mental wellness like lowering stress levels. Sailing hits all three points on the wellness triangle leading to an active, healthy kid.
Sailing is a lifelong sport. The sport offers incredible benefits for both children and parents, and it's one of those rare activities that can truly be enjoyed by people of all ages. For parents, sailing provides a unique way to bond with their kids while also enjoying a peaceful escape from the hustle of everyday life. The skills learned on the water—like patience, communication, and responsibility—are transferable to all aspects of life, making it beneficial for the whole family. Sailing has proven to be a beneficial activity for everyone involved. Improving both children and adults' problem solving skills, teamwork abilities and physical fitness.
