What is this thing we like to call Senioritis? When you get to that specific point in the school year, each and every teacher can see that seniors' grades are gradually starting to take a turn. It is almost like a switch in every kid's brain clicks off, and it is time to graduate. All of the exciting events that Seniors get to do before graduating start becoming more visible to them, and make the kids' minds go elsewhere, instead of keeping that focus in the classroom. Senioritis usually starts to take place after spring break is over. There are a lot of students out there who experience this before spring break starts, but the majority of students experience this in April all the way to graduation. The “symptoms” of Senioritis can be lack of motivation, grades dropping, absences and late numbers start to increase, lots of procrastination, and not completing assignments. The topic of Senioritis should be brought more into the open considering the world we live in, and where social media plays a huge role in.
How can you cure this? The most common way of avoiding Senioritis is to set goals for yourself. Before going into your senior year of high school, set a few goals for yourself to help motivate you to keep going all the way through to the end. If you are truly struggling with trying to go through to the finish line, it is okay to take those little steps back, and walk away for a minute, but get back into it. Most kids make the mistake of taking too long of a break away from school and/or school work, and then become okay with the fact that they’ve missed a couple days. One missed day of school can turn into five or ten missed days of school. As a senior it is beneficial to take a pause and remind yourself whatever it is that you are working toward whether that be college, work, or anything that you plan to take on after high school is over. That push of motivation should give you every reason to keep on going, and hopefully make your way down to graduation in no time!
