In life, as humans, we naturally become accustomed to the things we see around us. Some facts become common sense and are pushed into the back of our heads. Even changes become normalized to us and we begin to ignore them later. Because of this, it is sometimes difficult to appreciate the little things around us. So, here are some things to help you appreciate things in your daily life.
It is always good to appreciate good scenery; snow makes any place look beautiful despite the setting. In the fall, all the colorful leaves everywhere really bring life into any part of town. The sky is always beautiful, whether it be solid blue in the day or sprinkled with stars at night, it’s a good idea to gaze upward at the sky; just don’t look at the sun! When looking around a building, it’s natural to just see rooms, but have you ever considered how good the quality of the room is? Some places will look better than others, but imagine how bad they would all look if the designers didn't try at all! Take some time to look at the wallpaper, or the carpet, or the floor, and really take in the effort others put into making a decent establishment. Not all your happiness comes from scenery, obviously, so try thinking about this: luck.
Remember how lucky you are. Even if you may feel that you’ve hit rock bottom sometimes just remember that there is always someone out there in the world who is going through something worse than you. Also remember how lucky you are to have the usual household items, be thankful you were born in a country where you get to have high-quality products. Be thankful for your bed, as many people out there in the world don’t have one to lie on. Be thankful for such easy access to things you need, imagine how much more difficult it would be to get groceries if there were no grocery stores around! Life could be so much harder, but it isn’t.
It’s not that hard to think a little bit, you are currently living in a time period where years upon years of progress have culminated into today, to make your life easier and more convenient. Even with the problems everyone faces, every day would be much worse without so much human ingenuity in the past years. It’s normal to have a bit of bad in the world, but we need to appreciate the good in it, and the good that others have brought us, like food, water, games, books, medical care, education, and more; list goes on. It’s difficult to be appreciative, but when you learn to simply take in what’s going on around you and enjoy it, the world becomes so much better. Only the surface of this world is gray, but right underneath the surface is a bright rainbow.
