Southern Regional is fairly well known for being very strict on cancellation and delays. Sometimes it’s one of the only schools in the state to insist on staying open despite weather conditions putting other schools out of session for the day. Even other schools in the same area like Barnegat High School and MATES will often have snow days or days off due to intense rain/hurricane wind, while Southern will still have school on those days.
This is usually a subject of minor discussion among students of Southern Regional, but the recent snowy weather has led to more prominent discussion of the topic. With the weather having been the only snow seen for about a year, it was a big deal for everyone. Not just the students at Southern Regional, but the residents of New Jersey as a whole. So to get so little of an acknowledgement of it from the school was mildly upsetting to some. This could potentially just be because they wanted the day off and didn’t get it, but it is possible that the increase in temperature due to climate change could play an important role, given the part it’s played in reducing snow frequency by such a vast amount. With this in mind, it’s understandable many would be upset, because if the world keeps warming up the way it has, Southern Regional’s schools may never receive another snow day.
