The band Treaty Oak Revival was started in 2019. It was named after the treaty oak tree in Austin, Texas. Their band comprises Sam Canty, Lance Vanley, Jeremiah Vanley, Kelly McKay, and Andrew Carey. There are influences of country music on their music because they originated in West Texas.. The albums are incredibly relatable for many different situations, making them more appealing to listen to. I am one of the 5.6 million Spotify listeners that they have racked up in the last 6 years. Their popularity began growing with the release of their first album named “No Vacancy”. This album tells the story of being stuck in a negative cycle, and it depicts the emotions of loneliness and despair. Their most recent album, “Have A Nice Day”, is similar to the first. In my opinion, it's the aftermath of the instances in the first album. Instead of showing loneliness like the first album, a sense of anger and acceptance is now projected. Both albums are exquisite in their storytelling.
Treaty Oak Revival recently came out with a new album named “Have A Nice Day”. They mix country and punk rock to create their unique sound. This is not the genre I usually listen to, but once I heard one song, I completely fell in love with the album. There are a few skips on the album, but overall, it is really good. I especially like the background music in all the songs, which is rock. All of the songs on the album have a unique story and sound. I wish I could see this band live, but most of their shows are 21 and over.
To continue, the theme for the album, “Have A Nice Day,” is a developing story about acceptance after a relationship. The songs on the album also contain a lot of anger. In the song “In Between,” the lyrics, “I wish you'd tell me something good. That empty bottle looks kinda like how you left me.” The singers project so much anger, but that is what makes it interesting. Towards the end of the song, a sense of acceptance is brought up about the past. The band states that the past is in the past, and it should stay in the past. The emotion in the album draws attention to the songs. In another song called “Wrong Place Wrong Time,” the lyrics state, “Can't run from my past or my last name.” These lyrics really jumped out at me because they go on to talk about how haunting the past can be. Even if something happened a long time ago, it can follow someone everywhere. Almost all the lyrics in these songs have similar themes.
There are a lot of hits on this album, but a few misses as well. The songs that stick out to me include Fishnets, In Between, and Stop and Stare. “Fishnets” was the first song I ever heard on the album, and it immediately became my favorite. I have never heard a song like it, and I wish there were more similar music. Once I jumped into the album, “In Between” really stuck out to me as well. The instrumental on this song was incredible, and the band used the tone of frustration and disappointment. I think I like this song so much because it can be relatable to almost anyone. The last song that grasped my attention was “Stop and Stare”. The song depicts a feeling of loss. It is also the first song on the album, so it sets the scene for all the other songs. The only song I did not enjoy is “See You in Court”. The tone is very hostile, and the lyrics could use some improvement. This album is unique to its genre of music because of the influence of punk.
