We have many amazing athletes in this school who pride themselves in achieving greatness and doing their very best while doing so. Southern is very well known for its tremendous sports programs and all of its achievements.
Many of our athletes achieve impressive things all the time. However, there are some very great plays and achievements I’d like to talk about. Let’s dive into it. This past week, the Southern Regional Boys Basketball team got their 10th victory of their season against Millville High School. With the score being 13-12 in the beginning of the second quarter, the Rams eventually took the lead in the second half, and came out on top with a 59-44 win.
One player in particular to mention for such a pivotal outcome is Pat Gaffney. Pat put 30 points on the scoreboard, including four three-pointers and nine rebounds.
Let’s move on to the Boys track team. Our track team wins multiple titles every season, so we expect nothing short of greatness from them. Last week, the Southern Regional Boys Track Team won the Ocean County meet with 74 points. A track team takes many people to make it work, so there are multiple athletes with great achievements in this situation. Let’s start with Cole Cramer. Cramer took the top spot in the 55-meter dash in 6.58 seconds, and Ray Mulhern in fourth at 6.75 seconds. This racked up a good amount of points and helped the overall score that won them the title.
Last but not least, let’s talk about the Boys Wrestling team. The Southern Regional Boys Wrestling Team had an amazing victory against a tough opponent, CBA. Many of the wrestlers fought hard, but one wrestler’s performance in particular changed the whole outcome of the game. Conor Collins’ pin brought the Rams to a 21-12 lead. Every outcome after that kept going up for the Rams, thanks to Collins for getting them going.
