Week of September 23

The kids have done such a remarkable job learning the routines and settling into a rhythm that it feels like we've been in school much longer than three weeks. We are definitely off and running. Full speed ahead. We are having loads of fun singing and dancing while learning new letters and hearts words, geometric shapes and patterns and counting by ones, fives, and tens.

This week we focused on the letters a, e and h. We made the letters out of playdough, painted them with finger paints and practiced writing them with pencils and paper. We worked hard on learning the sounds that these letters make and found lots of things that start with those sounds.

Our list of heart words is growing rapidly:

a, I, it, is we

Practicing these words at home will greatly benefit your child. You could make flashcards or go on treasure hunts searching for these in words in books or on signs. Also, a couple of books have now come home for your child to put into his or her Treasure Box. Please have them read their books to you and to anyone else who is willing. The more practice the better!

In our Number Corner we are working on the days of the week, the months, geometric shapes and patterns. We continue to work on number fluency with five-frame and ten-frame cards and activities. We added two new math stations - polydrons and geoboards.

We also continue to work hard at taking turns, sharing ideas and materials, transitioning from one activity to another and working cooperatively with our friends.

Have a wonderful weekend!
