Week of March 2, 2014

Post date: Mar 9, 2014 8:52:09 PM

What an incredible week we had! We started with Read Across America and story time with Principal Tobin. In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday she read us the story Green Eggs and Ham. We had another story time with the 7th grade Spanish students who came in and read us books in Spanish. And to culminate our transportation unit we folded some very difficult paper airplanes with our 5th grade buddies and predicted which model/shape would fly the farthest. We had the Dragonfly, the Delta, the Condor and the Arrow. We then conducted an experiment to see which plane actually flew the farthest. We are still waiting for our big buddies to compile the data so we can see our results.

We had Art Literacy and learned about Italian painter Canaletto who was known for his landscapes and cityscapes. He enjoyed painting "in nature" versus in a studio. We then got to create our own bridge masterpieces with the help of Shelby Quintos and Kendra Zupan. Thank you wonderful moms!

We did quite a bit of writing this week and our stories are becoming wonderfully detailed. We are starting to write lots of words and even complete sentences. We are working on adding detail to our illustrations. We did lots of review of the many heart words we've leaned and wrote them with playdough, stamped them with stamps, wrote them on our own little white boards and tried to use them in stories.

In math we continued learning about money and also worked on counting to 100 by ones, twos, fives, and tens.

With all the runny noses and bugs going around we could really use some kleenex and some Lysol wipes if you'd like to contribute.

Also, if you haven't already signed up for a conference, please do so. The sign-up sheet is in the main office with Betsy.

Have a great weekend.
