Boy! Another action packed week! We had an absolute blast at the pumpkin patch despite the stormy weather. The kids were troopers. We started by meeting various farm animals including bunnies, horses, a pony, some calves, baby chicks, goats and piglets. We had a lesson on pressing apple cider and even got to sample some. We learned about different varieties of pumpkins and then took a spin through the hay maze. We searched the pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkins and returned to school to thaw out. It was the perfect culmination to our unit on farms and the pumpkin life cycle. You’ll see some fun pumpkin life cycle activities coming home in your child’s Friday Folder.

We had two garden sessions to look at some of the data we’ve been collecting to either prove or disprove our hypotheses regarding the impact of light and water on the seeds we planted. We are doing some great counting and measuring with this unit.

In math we continue to work on fluency up to 10 and on numeral recognition.

In Language Arts we have added several new heart words to our list…

a and have it is in I love my on see we will go

We have focused on the following letter sounds:

a, e, h, k, m, r, s

Next week we will learn w.

We continue to work on adding details to our stories whether we are writing them, telling them orally or telling them with pictures.

In Health we continue to learn about keeping our bodies safe and healthy. This week our focus was on the five senses.

You may have noticed that a book order came home in your child’s Friday Folder. If your child would like to order books, please return the book order by next Friday, Oct. 27th.

On Halloween there will be an all school parade at 2:15. You are welcome to come at 2:00 to help your child get into costume if you’d like. If you’re not able, no worries. There will be plenty of adults to help!

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.
