FIELD TRIP NEWS... Our Ivy and Bean field trip is this Thursday. We will leave the school at 8:40 and ride downtown to the Newmark Theater on SW Broadway. We will return to Riverdale around 11:30. Please be sure to send a pocket-sized snack with your child.

Also, with the cold weather, be sure your child is coming to school dressed appropriately. As long as the conditions outside are safe, we will continue to go out for recess. Hats and gloves really help.

Although this was a short week, we still managed to pack a lot of learning into our days! We are moving along with our Salmon Life Cycle unit in science and continue to work on the concept of community in Social Studies.

I am delighted with how well your children are learning the heart words. I can tell they are really working on them at home as well as at school. They can now read and write much of our morning message each day and delight in being able to recognize heart words in the world around them. The heart words we added this week were:

of be my

We also learned the letter Z and the accompanying cheer:

Z says "Z" Zebra in the zoo..."Z" "Z" Z"

In math we are continuing with counting by 1's, 5's, and 10's and are having fun learning how to write simple addition equations. We are learning about 3-dimensional shapes and are looking for cones, cylinders and spheres in the real world.

Stay warm this weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
