Dear Parents,

We just finished another busy week. We have now learned the letters A, E, H, and K and have learned the following heart words:

I We See to love

We worked on identifying the beginning, middle and ending of a story and also looked at the setting. We then focused on settings in our Writer’s Workshop.

We had garden time and harvested seeds, which goes nicely with our science unit (the life cycle of the apple). Our apple study carried over into Social Studies. We learned about Johnny Appleseed and celebrated his birthday on Monday.

In Math we are learning to count by twos, fives and tens and we learned about greater than and less than as well as odd and even numbers.

There are a few important things in your child’s Friday Folder. The October Family project is in there as well as a weekend homework assignment – going on an “H” sound treasure hunt. They need look for things that start with the “h” sound and then record their findings on the sheet in their Friday folder. They can either draw pictures or they can cut pictures out of a magazine.

Also, if you eat any apples this weekend, we are in need of apple seeds. Our harvest wasn’t as successful as we had hoped. If you can save some apple seeds (as many as possible), please wrap them in a damp paper towel and seal them in a ziplock baggie. THANKS!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kate
