ANNOUNCEMENTS...

Next week is Spirit Week. Monday is Matching Day. We don't want anyone to feel left out, so I will be wearing blue jeans and a red top. If your child hasn't already matched up with anyone, they are welcome to match with me.

Also, just a reminder that our Chinese New Year Dragon Parade will begin at 11:10 next Friday, January 31st. If you would like to watch, please meet at our classroom at that time. I am looking for people to sign up to bring either little clementine oranges or cookies (either fortune or almond) for after the parade. You are welcome to join us for that if you'd like.

In Language Arts we began our new unit on The Mitten, a wonderful story by Jan Brett. We are talking about the elements of a story and will be writing our own scripts based on the story of The Mitten but creating our own setting and characters. We did quite a bit of writing this week and it's so much fun to see how many words the kids are using in their story telling. Our heart words for the week were:

this for or

We also learned the short "E" and "N" for our new letter sounds.

In math we continue to work on growing patterns and counting by 2's and 5's. We also added a new math station comparing penny amounts.

We have been having fun with our Chinese New Year unit and have been singing songs and learning dances for our celebration.

We got to spend time with our big buddies learning all about Ancient Egypt and hearing about the incredible projects they did. And we even had time to do some painting and puppet shows as well.

Have a great weekend!
