Week of December 9th

Post date: Dec 15, 2013 12:11:42 AM

My head is still spinning after the week we just had. Crazy weather, hearing and vision screenings, salmon activities with our 6th grade buddies, the Winter Concert, our hike down to the river to release the salmon… And we even managed to squeeze in some art projects, reader's theater, songs and poems, writing and math. Phew! I'm tired. And I'll bet your kiddos are, too!

I am so delighted with the growth I am seeing in all of them - not only in their reading, writing and math skills, but also in their membership in our classroom community. They are so incredibly supportive and helpful to one another. It's wonderful to watch them compose the Morning Message as a group. Some are able to write entire sentences and others are working on letters, but they are patient and helpful and cheer each other on.

This week we learned the letters C and D, so your kids can sing our class alphabet song with poems for the following letters: a, c, d, h, k, m, r, s, w, and y. We didn't add any new heart words but spent the week reviewing the ones we have learned so far.

In science we wrapped up our salmon life cycle unit and culminated with the release of our salmon babies.

In Math we continue to work on geometry, patterns, and numeral recognition as well as adding numbers together. We worked on odd and even numbers and counting by 2's and 5's.

It was another fantastic week!

As I mentioned last week, we've been working on retelling the Little Red Hen story with our own characters and settings. I know it's a really busy time of year, but we would like to invite you to come and watch our performances on Thursday, December 19th from 11:00 - 11:25 if you are able. If you would then like to go to the cafeteria to have lunch with your child you would be welcome to do that.

Enjoy the weekend!
