Dear Parents,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am certainly thankful for your incredible children. I am having such wonderful year with them. They are all incredible treasures.

We have had a very busy few weeks learning lots of letters, heart words, 3-dimensional geometric shapes, story concepts and more. I recently sent out an email with an updated list of all heart words taught this year. Please let me know if you didn’t receive it. Any extra practice you can do over break will benefit your child!

Most of your children have gotten into the habit of taking their blue reading bags to and from school and are enjoying picking out new books each day to take home to read with you. I am delighted by their enthusiasm. I encourage them to read their book to as many people as possible – including pets, stuffed animals, neighbors, siblings, but most importantly you! If you have not seen the blue reading bags, please ask your child about it. Perhaps it is still in his or her backpack or perhaps they are leaving it at school.

In Science we have continued to observe our baby salmon and are doing a beautiful job recording their growth and following their life cycle. I know I had said we were releasing them this past week, but for some reason they are developing more slowly this year. They should be ready to go right after Thanksgiving break so we plan to release them on Wednesday, November 30th. We will walk down to the river with the 6th Graders and release them and then we will take the bus back up to school. We will leave the grade school at 10:10 and will return in time for lunch recess at 11:10. We would love to have parent volunteers join us for the walk down. Please let me know if you’re interested! Attached is the permission slip. Please print it and send it to school with your child the Monday after break!

And just another reminder about our upcoming Winter Concert:

K-4 Winter Concert details for Dec. 8

With winter just around the corner, the time has come for the K-4th Grade WinterConcert at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, in the gym. The students have been working hard to prepare, learning what a performer looks like, how to sing “loud and proud” (as the students call it) and how important it is to show teamwork and perform as a group. It is important that we have every student there, and they look forward to having their family and loved ones there for support!

Concert timeline:

6:45 p.m.

Parents drop students off in the Commons. Please do not leave your student unsupervised – make sure they are dropped off with their teacher.

7 p.m.

Concert begins

Concert attire:

Winter formal

After our class sings your child is welcome to sit with you (or you are welcome to take them home since it’s a late night) or they can remain with me on the mats. They may not go back and forth as it is too difficult to keep track of them that way.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Warmly,

Kate Wray
